Seit 2025 hosten Asja Mahgoub und Nora Schneider ca. 1x im Monat CRITICAL CAKE. Das Konzept ist einfach:
1. Wir sehen uns ein Stück an, das uns interessiert.
2. Wir backen in Reaktion auf das Stück einen Kuchen.
3. Wir laden öffentlich dazu ein, den Kuchen zu essen und dabei über das Stück zu reden.
Halbwegs durch das Gespräch gibt es eine Pause und Stück und Kuchen treten in einem epischen Wettkampf in sieben Bewertungskategorien gegen einander an. Außerdem kann man Kritik-Bingo spielen und Preise gewinnen.
Das Format ist in Eigeninitiative aus der Lust heraus für gemeinsame Zeit, Austausch und kritisches Sprechen über Kunst und aufregenden Kuchen entstanden. Wir arbeiten in und um Frankfurt/Main herum.

9. Boccalero (Laura Stellacci)
The dust has settled and a glorious winner emerges:
For the second time in the history of Critical Cake, the piece took home the crown!
This time, “Boccalero” by Laura Stellacci and a coconut cake with passionfruit creme patissière and cream cheese lime cream, decorated with candied ginger, galia melon, myrrh caramel, golden banana chips and cigarettes fought a close battle.
The cake won in Consistency and Accessibility and tied in Dramaturgy, but in the end had to surrender to the piece, which was especially far ahead in Audience Experience.
Cake prompts
For the cake we interpreted the prompt “devotion” through the classic catholic offerings of gold, incense and myrrh, focussed the two most iconic components of “attitude” – a great entry and a cigarette – and took an organic approach to “pelvis” by reimagining the cake as a pelvic floor carrying various organs.
Discussion
We had a feisty critique talk, with passionate participants (and an eager moderator), discussing the atmosphere of the space, the (im)possibilty of such a thing as a biographical dance piece, punk&pop, artistic processes diverging from inspirations – and what a catholic movement actually is.
